Be part of The East Village Fiction Workshop, Fall 2010 session, in that literary hotbed, the East Village, New York!
The East Village Fiction Workshop is a supportive and constructive workshop for serious writers of novels and short stories. All levels welcome, as long as you are excited about the craft of fiction, and your own writing. (I also offer private editing and critiques of all forms of writing. See below for details.) I guarantee a lively and inspiring atmosphere to help your work flourish.
In The East Village Fiction Workshop, we critique your work on its own terms, exploring how the plot, characterizations, setting and style serve your themes, and how you can use the elements of the craft to further develop your novel or story. Our primary task is to "workshop" the stories or chapters you bring to us. But you'll also get inspiring in-class exercises to help you flex your writing muscles and surprise yourself. (Flannery O'Connor: "If there are no surprises for the writer, how can there by any for the reader?")
We'll read published writers as pertain to your work. Your fellow-writers will offer you thorough critiques of your stories or novel chapters, including both what already works, and what could be even better. As the instructor, I'll wrap up the discussions, as well as provide a written analysis of each piece.

Thursdays, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
October 21 through December 9th, 2010
(We will not meet Thanksgiving, and will skip one additional week, as a "catch up week," during the term.)
$300
($280 for returning participants)
Everyone is critiqued at least twice. Class maximum, 12; minimum, 4.
Enrollment (via payment) is on a first-come basis until the class fills.
Loyal Friend Rate: An additional $10 off ($270) for anyone who has taken the EVFW more than twice.
Insprirational Rate: Bring another writer to the workshop who has never taken it before, and they get $20 off, and you get $10 off in addition to other discounts. ($280 for your friend. $270 for you if this is your second class. $260 if it is your third or more!) (*Must be a serious writer of fiction, any level, who is excited about the craft!)

Rates:
Fiction, memoir, resumes, screenwriting or other non-referenced work:
$5 per page, $100 minimum ($100 for a single unit/critique of 20 pages or less).
Discounts for longer works:
20% discount for a single unit (single critique, for example the first half of a novel) of 100-199 pages.
30% discount for a single critique of 200 or more pages.
Discounts for frequent, on-going critiques:
Writing that is sent for critique in at least monthly intervals (for examples, novel chapters), will receive discounts once 100 pages (10%) or 200 pages (15%) are reached, and will continue at the discounted rate as long as the writing is received monthly.
Rush rate (48-hour per 100 pages):
$7 per page ($140 minimum). Bulk discount does not apply.
Referenced or academic work or work by ESL writers, or writers desiring extensive help with grammar:
$7 per page ($140 minimum). Bulk discount does not apply.
Legal editing/professional publication editing negotiated separately.
A "page" is 12-point Times Roman font, double-spaced, one-inch margins.
Work is generally emailed, and is returned to the writer by email with comments and edits directly on the document (with "Track Changes," so that the writer may reject or accept the suggestions at will), and with a separate over-all critique.
