Be part of The East Village Fiction Workshop, Winter 2010 session, in that literary hotbed, the East Village, New York!
The East Village Fiction Workshop is for serious writers of novels and short stories. All levels welcome, as long as you are excited about the craft of fiction, and your own writing. (I also offer private editing and critiques of all forms of writing. See below for details.) I guarantee a lively, inspiring and supportive atmosphere to help your work flourish.
In The East Village Fiction Workshop, we critique your work on its own terms, exploring how the plot, characterizations, setting and style serve your themes, and how you can use the elements of the craft to further develop your novel or story. Our primary task is to "workshop" the stories or chapters you bring to us. But you'll also get inspiring in-class exercises to help you flex your writing muscles. We'll read and discuss published writers. Your fellow-writers will offer you thorough critiques of your stories or novel chapters, including both what already works, and what could be even better. As the instructor, I'll wrap up the discussions, as well as provide a written analysis of each piece.

($280 for returning participants)
Everyone is critiqued at least twice. Class maximum, 12; minimum, 4.
Enrollment (via payment) is on a first-come basis until the class fills.

- Karen Moulding’s fiction and poetry have appeared in nerve.com, Fawlt Magazine, the Piedmont Literary Review, Spectrum, and more, and have been anthologized by Chronicle Books (Smut 2, the best of nerve.com), and STARbooks Press. She earned an MFA in Fiction at Columbia University, an MA in English at City College of New York, and, inexplicably, a law degree at Columbia University School of Law. She is Editor of the annually updated legal treatise, Sexual Orientation and the Law. She’s enjoyed Fellowships in fiction from the Virginia Center for Creative Arts, the Squaw Valley Community of Writers and the Napa Valley Writers Conference, and has taught fiction at The Writers Voice in New York City, Gotham Writers’ Workshop, and her own living room (the East Village Fiction Workshop). She was Teaching Assistant for the late poet Kenneth Koch at Columbia University. She has read her work at KGB Bar, Cornelia Street Café and other venues in New York City, and at Tongue and Groove (Hotel Café) and Universal Bar and Grill in Los Angeles. She lives in New York City (mostly) and/or Los Angeles and is the single mother of a bizarrely literate and adorably hammy three year old girl named Fin.
